🚀 Advanced CHIRP Tips

Once you’re comfortable with the basics, use these tips to speed up your workflow.

⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts

Save time while editing large frequency lists:

  • Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V: Copy and paste entire rows.
  • Ctrl + Z: Undo the last change.
  • Insert: Add a new channel row.
  • Delete: Clear the selected channel.

📂 Importing & Exporting

You don’t have to manually type every frequency.

  • CSV Export: Save your channel list as a .csv file to share it with others or edit it in Excel.
  • Stock Configs: In CHIRP, go to File > Open Stock Config to quickly load FRS, GMRS, or Marine frequencies (useful for reference).

🛠️ Bulk Editing

Want to change the Power level or Tone for 10 channels at once?

  1. Highlight the channels you want to change (use Shift + Click).
  2. Right-click on one of the highlighted cells.
  3. Select Edit and change the value. It will apply to all selected channels.

📡 Settings Tab

Don’t forget the Settings tab on the left sidebar in CHIRP. Here you can:

  • Squelch Level: Typically set to 3 or 5.
  • Battery Saver: Enable this to extend your radio’s life.
  • VOX: Disable this unless you are using a hands-free headset.
  • Beep: Turn off that annoying “beep” every time you press a button.
